What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Profile for participating in groups and forums

When you join the site as a member, you are asked for a name, username, and an email address. The name and username can be anything unoffensive. If you request that an account be made for you, the admin will create it using the email address and names that you use to send the request, unless you say otherwise. You may sign in and change your screen name on the Profile page.

When site members participate in groups and forums on the site, we collect the data shown in the posting forms.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After you post, your profile picture is visible to other site members in the context of your post.

Cookies

(This section is the suggested text provided by WordPress; the site admins have no interest in cookies that don’t have chocolate chips in them. But we leave it here in case WordPress is actually doing any of these things unbeknownst to the admins.)

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Analytics

We don’t use any third-party analytics.

Who we share your data with

There are two admins who have access to the list of all site members and their email addresses. All other site members can only see the public profiles of members, and may message each other through social features of the site but do not get access to the names and email addresses. We don’t share that.

How long we retain your data

If you post in a group or forum, the post and its metadata are retained indefinitely.

For registered members of the site, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, you can request that we delete your account, export and/or erase your data.
